No expiry eSIM: what it is and who it's for

An eSIM whose data never expires: how it differs from a travel eSIM, and why digital nomads, expats and frequent flyers keep one on their phone.

· 4 min read

Most travel eSIMs work like a hotel booking: a set amount of data for a set number of days, and whatever you don't use disappears at the end. That's fine for a two-week holiday. But if you travel often, live between countries, or just want data ready whenever you need it, watching unused gigabytes expire gets old. That's what a No Expiry eSIM is for.

What "no expiry" means

A No Expiry eSIM is a data plan whose data doesn't run out on a date. You install it once, keep it on your phone, use data when you need it, and top it up when you're running low. There's no countdown from the day you activate it, and no need to buy and install a fresh eSIM every trip.

At Pure Freedom, No Expiry eSIMs are our premium range, and they're built around privacy as well as flexibility. You'll find them under No Expiry eSIMs, where each destination page lists the plans, coverage and current prices in your currency.

No Expiry vs Travel eSIM at a glance

  • Validity: a Travel eSIM runs for a fixed number of days; a No Expiry eSIM's data doesn't expire.
  • Best for: Travel eSIMs suit a single trip with known dates; No Expiry suits repeat trips, long stays and irregular use.
  • Installs: with Travel eSIMs you'll usually install a new one per trip; a No Expiry eSIM stays on your phone and you top it up.
  • Price: Travel eSIMs are our most affordable option per trip; No Expiry plans cost more up front, and you're paying for data that keeps.

Who it's for

Digital nomads and remote workers

If you move every few weeks, buying a new eSIM in every country adds up, in money and in admin. One eSIM you top up as you go means one thing to manage, and data that's still there if a trip gets cut short.

Expats and people living between two countries

Splitting time between Australia and somewhere else? A No Expiry eSIM can sit quietly on your phone while you're home and be ready the moment you land, without having to remember to buy anything before the flight.

Frequent business travellers

Short, frequent trips are where expiring plans waste the most. Three days in Singapore and two in Tokyo rarely line up with a plan's validity. With data that keeps, leftovers roll into the next trip.

Back-up and second-line users

Some people keep a No Expiry eSIM as a spare data line: for when the main carrier has an outage, for a work tablet, or to keep their main number separate from apps that ask for data access. Because the data doesn't expire, a small balance can sit there for when it's needed.

Privacy-minded users

You can buy as a guest with just an email address, pay through Stripe (we never see your card details), and top up later with only the eSIM's ICCID, no account needed. Read our privacy policy for exactly what we keep.

When a Travel eSIM is the better buy

If you take one or two trips a year with fixed dates, a Travel eSIM is usually the cheaper choice, and there's no shame in picking it. No Expiry earns its premium when your travel is frequent, unpredictable or long-term.

How to top up

Go to Top up eSIM, enter the eSIM's ICCID (or IMSI), and choose a top-up. The data is added to the eSIM already on your phone, with no new QR code to scan. If you have an account, you can also top up from My eSIMs, where you'll see usage too.

Getting started

Check your phone takes an eSIM on our compatibility page, pick a destination or region under No Expiry eSIMs, and install it at home on Wi-Fi. When you arrive, switch it on, set it for mobile data, and enable data roaming for it. Our installation guide covers each step.

Frequently asked questions

Does a No Expiry eSIM really never expire?+

The data on a No Expiry eSIM doesn't expire on a date, so you can keep it on your phone and use it whenever you need. Check the plan details on the destination page for its coverage and terms.

Can I top up a No Expiry eSIM?+

Yes. Enter its ICCID on the Top up eSIM page, or top up from My eSIMs. The data is added to the same eSIM, with no new QR code.
